George Dila's short stories and personal essays have appeared in North American Review, Driftwood, Current, American Fiction, Traverse, Michigan Blue, The Christian Science Monitor and other publications. His story collection, The End of the World, was published by Pure Heart Press in 2007. A native Detroiter, George now follows his writing bliss in a small town on a big lake — Ludington, Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Second Prize 2009 Latte Fiction Awards. We got this assignment in our Adult Ed creative writing class, the assignment being to write a little story about our mother, Mother’s Day being just a couple of weeks away, and all. Just one page. Like a sketch or a vignette. A little scene, maybe, with some action and dialogue.
